Västerbotten county (Västerbottens län) has a surface of ca 55 435 km² which places the county on the second place (out of 21 counties). The population of the county is ca 271 490 inhabitants, which places the county on the 14th place out of 21. The density is only ca 5 inhabitants/km². The county was created in 1638 and its current governor is Magdalena Andersson (b. 1954). The biggest city in Västerbotten county, which also is the residence city, is Umeå with ca 88 205 inhabitants.
