The municipality of Umeå has a surface of ca 5 277 km² and a population of ca 128 590 inhabitants, being Sweden’s 11th most populated municipality. It was created in 1971 and its residence is the city of Umeå. The municipality has 10 registration districts and 24 urban areas.
