Tierps kommun

Tierps kommun har en yta på ca. 2 578 km² och en befolkning på ca. 21 485 invånare. Kommunen blev inrättad år 1971 och dess centralort är Tierp. Kommunen är indelad i åtta distrikt och socknar (Hållnäs, Söderfors, Tegelsmora, Tierp, Tolfta, Vendel, Västland och Österlövsta) samt fem församlingar (Hållnäs-Österlövsta, Tolfta, Västland, Tierp-Söderfors och Vendel-Tegelsmora). De tre första tillhör Tierps pastorat i Upplands norra kontrakt av Uppsala stift. I kommunen ligger 9 tätorter: Tierp (5 830 inv.), Örbyhus (2 025 inv.), Söderfors (1 705 inv.), Karlholmsbruk (1 195 inv.), Skärplinge (720 inv.), Månkarbo (675 inv.), Tobo (610 inv.), Mehedeby (430 inv.) och Upplanda (225 inv.). Kommunen ligger i länets norra del och högsta punkten i kommunen har uppmätts vid Frebro intill E4:an, strax innan tätorten Tierp i söderriktning (72 m.ö.h.). Kända personer från kommunen är fältmarskalken Gustaf Horn (1592-1657) och nyckelharpspelaren Erik Sahlström (1912-1986). En liten bit av sydostligaste delen av landskapet Gästrikland ingår i Tierps kommun.

The municipality is located in the northern part of the county and the highest point in the municipality has been measured at Frebro next to the E4, just before the town of Tierp in a southerly direction (72 m above sea level).Famous people from the municipality are the field marshal Gustaf Horn (1592-1657) and the key harpist Erik Sahlström (1912-1986). A small part of the southeasternmost part of the landscape Gästrikland is part of Tierp municipality.
