The municipality of Sorsele has a surface of ca 7 958 km² and a population of ca 2 505 inhabitants, which makes it the second least populated municipality in Sweden. It was created in 1971 and its residence is the town of Sorsele. The municipality has 2 registration districts and only 1 urban area.
