The municipality of Kiruna has a surface of ca 20 553 km², which makes it Sweden’s biggest municipality, and a population of ca 22 906 inhabitants. Kiruna kommun has a border with Finland and Norway and is the northernmost municipality in Sweden, the Three-Country Cairn/Treriksröset being Sweden’s northernmost point, located at the meeting point of three countries: Sweden, Norway and Finland. It was created in 1971 and its residence is the town of Kiruna. The municipality has 3 registration districts and 7 urban areas.
