Helags, shielings, muskoxen
Härjedalen is located in Norrland (central-western Sweden), being with its ca 12 000 km² (3% of the whole country) the 12th (of 25) biggest province. The province includes 2 counties and it belongs to the diocese of Härnösand. It has a population of ca 9 680 inhabitants (last place of 25), thus having a density of only 1 inhabitant/km².
The highest point is the mountain of Helags in Bergs kommun (northwestern Härjedalen) with 1 796 m and the biggest lake is Rogen (ca 37 km², altitude of 758 m), located in the west. The plant symbol of the province is the Arctic violet (mosippan) and the animal symbol is the brown bear (brunbjörnen). Other symbols: the golden eagle bird (kungsörnen), the grayling fish (harren), the alpine argus insect (fjällvickerblåvinge), the apple sort Red cinnamon apple (rött kaneläpple), the fungus the yellow swamp russula (gulkremla), the moss skogslummermossa, the rock type Tännäsögon gneiss/gnejs and the element of palladium (Pd).
