Halland is located in Götaland (southwestern Sweden), being with its ca 4 790 km² (1,2% of the whole country) the 18th biggest province of all 25. The province includes 3 counties and it belongs to the dioceses of Göteborg and Lund. It has a population of ca 340 860 inhabitants (7th place of 25), thus having a density of ca 71 inhabitants/km².
The highest point is Högalteknall in Laholms kommun (southwestern Halland) with 226 m. The biggest lake is Lygnern (ca 32 km², altitude of 15 m), located in the north of the province. The plant symbol of the province is the hairy greenweed (hårginsten) and the animal and fish symbol is the Atlantic salmon (laxen). Other symbols: the peregrine falcon bird (pilgrimsfalk), the cockchafer insect (ollonborre), the apple sort Brunns, the scarletina bolete mushroom (blodsopp), the shining hookeria moss (skirmossa), the rock type charnockite (charnockit) and the element of sodium (natrium/Na).
