The municipality of Gällivare has a surface of ca 16 819 km², which makes it Sweden’s third biggest municipality, and a population of ca 17 550 inhabitants. Gällivare kommun has a border with Norway and it was created in 1971. Its residence is the town of Gällivare. The municipality has 4 registration districts and 6 urban areas.
